Jersey Monday: Ben Wallace

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that I'd bought my Metta World Peace signed jersey as part of a charity auction to support THRIVE-Gulu. Well, that wasn't the only jersey I bought in that auction.

This Ben Wallace Pistons jersey, signed by the four-time defensive player of the year, is actually the FIRST Pistons jersey in my collection. That leaves just a handful of holes in my NBA collection (though some teams -- like the Nets, obviously -- are only represented by an outdated style). The teams I don't have:

- Charlotte Bobcats
- Golden State Warriors
- Memphis Grizzlies
- New Orleans Hornets
- Oklahoma City Thunder (I do have multiple Sonics jerseys, but I'm not counting them for OKC)
- Toronto Raptors
- Utah Jazz

Looking at that list, I'm stunned that I somehow grew up in the '90s and didn't get a Hornets or Raptors jersey. I actually remember having a Grizzlies jersey on layaway when I worked at Marshalls (along with like a dozen other jerseys), but ended up not getting it because, well, because the Grizzlies sucked.

I'm probably going to end up waiting on the Bobcats until they change their nickname and the Thunder until they change their uniforms. As for the Warriors, Grizzlies, Hornets, Raptors and Jazz, if I do decide to finish off my NBA collection (and who am I kidding? I'm totally going to finish it) I'll probably go the throwback route. Maybe a Run-TMC era Hardaway, a Larry Johnson, an old school Vince Carter, a Karl Malone and... ummm... a Grizzlies player?
