2011 Desktop Girl Tournament - Elite 8

The 2011 Hottest Desktop Girl of the Week Tournament has moved into the Elite 8, which means were down to just four match-ups, the regional finals. But before we get to that, let's check out the Sweet 16 results, where there was a massive upset.

Janet Pym Region
- Aly Michalka (51.4%) def. Sofia Vergara
- Rachel McAdams (62.2%) def. Olivia Wilde

Natasha Romanoff Region
- Emma Stone (70.3%) def. Austum Reeser
- Emily Blunt (58.8%) def. Keri Russell

Carol Danvers Region
- Summer Glau (61.8%) def. Laura Vandervoort
- Katrina Bowden (58.8%) def. Lyndsy Fonseca

Jessica Drew Region
- Brooklyn Decker (58.8%) def. Heather Morris
- Sarah Michelle Gellar (61.8%) def. Hayley Williams

I am honestly shocked that Sofia Vergara got eliminated this early. I really expected her to cruise to the Final Four, if not the entire title. This is like two-time defending champ Duke going out to Cal in the '94 NCAA Tournament.

Interestingly, this does set up a potential "Easy A" final four match-up, should things break the right way in the Elite 8. Speaking of that round, let's get to the match-ups:

Now, for this week's eight matchups, which will decide who moves on to the quarterfinals:

Janet Pym Region

Aly Michalka
vs.

Rachel McAdams
Natasha Romanoff Region

Emma Stone
 vs.

Emily Blunt
Carol Danvers Region

Summer Glau
vs.

Katrina Bowden
Jessica Drew Region

Brooklyn Decker
vs.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Those are the full third-round matchups this week. Now that we're down to four match-ups, the "Match-up of the Day" will only run on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so don't be surprised when there isn't one tomorrow. Next week the Final Four begins. Assuming no disasters in scheduled voting, the championship match should be set on August 31, and voting on that will run through September 10. Then on Wednesday, September 14, I'll unveil the 2011 DGOW Tournament champion.
