In case you missed my tweet shortly after midnight this morning, today is Britney Spears's 29th birthday. And she took time out of her own birthday celebration to give us, her fans, a gift.
I'm almost done with my new album and it will be coming out this March. I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!
Woo-hoo! New Britney album!
This will be Britney's first new studio album since 2008's "Circus." That album was released exactly two years ago today, and was the centerpiece of "The Circus Tour", which became my home away from home during 2009. "Circus" has also become my favorite Britney album, which shows just how far Britney has come since her low points (shaved head, anyone?).
I'm very interested to hear what the new album will sound like. With each of her last four albums, she's moved toward a more mature and more dance-heavy sound. Her once-rival Christina Aguilera just released a relative flop that tried to capture the Lady Gaga sound that's been so successful of late, but I think trying to do that would be a mistake for Britney (much as it was for Christina). Britney needs to continue her evolution, not undergo a musical revolution.
Mostly, though, she just needs to have a safe, happy birthday, then get back in the studio and make more awesome music.
Happy birthday, Brit-Brit!
