Jersey Monday: Hines Ward

If you weren't aware already, I'm a Redskins fan. I go into every season hoping that they'll win the Super Bowl, but if that isn't going to happen, I have three NFL priorities beyond that:

- root for the Steelers to win
- root for the Ravens to lose
- root for the Patriots to lose

Last night worked out well, because two of those three priorities happened in the same game when the Steelers beat the Ravens in Baltimore.

I went to college in Baltimore and back then, Ravens fans were insufferable. To be entirely fair, I should put "fans" in quotes, because at the time, the team was less than a decade old, and most of the so-called Ravens fans had either grown up as Colts fans (from when they played in Baltimore) or Redskins fans. One of my great joys in college was going to Steelers-Ravens games in Baltimore and seeing the stadium half-filled with Steelers fans. It was stunning how easy it was for Steelers fans to invade that stadium and take it over.

Hines Ward didn't have a particularly good game last night, but he didn't need to. The Steelers won. The Ravens lost. All is good with the world (well, at least all outside of Landover, Maryland, where the Redskins continue their season of suckosity).

Jersey Monday will continue every Monday until I run out of jerseys to spotlight. And since I’ve got more than 150 of them, that could be awhile.
