I bought this jersey in the summer of 2003, the year they debuted, and just days before Vick broke his leg (which forced him to miss most of the season). The very next year, the Falcons made these black unis their alternate jersey, going with the red as their official home uniform, so I didn't wear this as often.
Then, of course, we all know what happened with Vick in 2007, which made this jersey -- and my other Vick jersey from his rookie season -- a permanent member of the closet collection. Sure, the jersey looks cool, but I can't in good conscience wear it. I did get three decent years out of it (2004-2006) so I can't complain too much, but it does kind of feel like $250 wasted.
At least I didn't compound the problem by doing what I originally planned on doing when Vick returned from his injury. I came close to buying a red Falcons Vick jersey and a Virginia Tech Vick jersey (bringing this post back to its origins), but thought better of it. Two jerseys of one player is already more than enough. I'm pretty sure that the only players for whom I have more than two are Deion Sanders and LeBron James. And Vick is no Deion or LeBron.
Jersey Monday will continue every Monday until I run out of jerseys to spotlight. And since I’ve got more than 150 of them, that could be awhile.
