Jersey Monday: Marlon Anderson

I wanted to spotlight this jersey (which has been mentioned on my blog before) for a specific reason. I bought this game-used jersey during the final week of the 2008 season, in one of the last games played at Shea Stadium.

I mention this because it's the last time I saw the Mets win a game in person. Now, to be fair, I haven't been to a ton of games at Citi Field, but I went again this past Saturday, and once again the Mets lost (and, again, it was to the Braves, the bane of my existence). I'm considering buying weekend or Sunday only season tickets next year, but I'm worried that if I do, I'll be dooming the team to another year of failure (of course, Johan Santana's injury may have already done that).

As for Anderson, well, he was a serviceable Met, but the only reason I bought this specific jersey was that I wanted a game-used one from Shea's final season, and the only other ones available at a reasonable price were all from relief pitchers. As mentioned in the blog post linked above, the bullpen was horrible that season, so I refused to support them in any way.

Jersey Monday will continue every Monday until I run out of jerseys to spotlight. And since I’ve got more than 150 of them, that could be awhile.
