When I went to choose this week's "Desktop Girl of the Week", I knew I wanted it to be Scarlett Johansson, in honor of the upcoming release of "Iron Man 2" (which I'll actually be seeing tonight), but I didn't want to do a repeat selection so soon after re-launching the feature. Well, upon looking at the full DGOW album, I discovered that somehow I'd never actually given ScarJo the honor. So, long overdue, here is this week's DGOW, Scarlett Johansson.
Scarlett is just 25 years old, but has been on the acting scene since 1994. The first thing I ever saw her in was 1995's "Just Cause", the Sean Connery/Blair Underwood project in which she played the daughter of Connery and Kate Capshaw. She was in "Home Alone 3" and "The Horse Whisperer" in the late '90s, then co-starred in "Ghost World" in 2001, but really broke onto the scene in 2003, when she appeared as Charlotte in the Academy Award-winning "Lost In Translation."
Since then, ScarJo's been in some good movies ("The Black Dahlia", "The Prestige") some bad movies ("The Island") and some utterly unwatchable movies ("The Spirit"). Throughout the entire time, she's remained one of Hollywood's most attractive women. In fact, every time PooZ and I are discussing casting for female comic book roles, the discussion inevitably finds its way to ScarJo. We know she can't play EVERY hot female hero, but there's no reason she can't play a few of them. I mean, if the "Spider-Man" movies aren't going to interact with the "Iron Man" movies, why can't she be Black Cat in addition to being Black Widow. And hell, if they ever re-re-boot "Fantastic Four", let's throw her in the mix for Sue Storm as well.
For now, we just get to enjoy her as Natasha Romanoff, aka The Black Widow, in "Iron Man 2". And because ScarJo is so awesome, I couldn't decide on just a single picture for the DGOW selection. There's the one above, of her as Natasha in civilian clothing, but then there's also this one, of her in the Black Widow costume.
So pick your favorite, or download them both. And be sure to see "Iron Man 2", in theaters this Friday.
As always with DGOW, I’ll provide a widescreen (1680x1050) image for downloading (alternate selection here). If you want to see past DGOW, then just check the archive album.
