30 Years of Adam: 2003

Adam Reisinger, the creator of AdamReisinger.com, turns 30 on May 17, 2010. As part of the countdown to his 30th birthday, AdamReisinger.com looks back on May 17th each year since 1980.

For once, I know exactly what I did on my birthday. May 17, 2003 was my 23rd birthday, and I know for a fact I worked. I remember this because I wore my Air Jordan XIVs (pictured above -- not MINE, but the shoe itself), which had a big 23 on the back of the shoe. I remember it so well because as cool looking as those shoes were, they ran small and narrow, and my feet hurt for about two days afterwards.

In non-foot related news, Funny Cide won the 2003 Preakness Stakes, after having won the Kentucky Derby two weeks earlier. This double has been fairly common during my lifetime, particularly for horses that ran the Preakness on May 17. However, there still has yet to be a triple crown winner in my 30 years on Earth.

That also applies to baseball, where the last triple crown winner was 1967 -- or two years before the Mets won their first World Series. In 2003, the Mets did not win the World Series, or even make the playoffs, but on my 23rd birthday, they did manage to beat the San Francisco Giants, 5-1. Still, they were in last place, 12 games back of the Braves.
