Adam Reisinger, the creator of AdamReisinger.com, turns 30 on May 17, 2010. As part of the countdown to his 30th birthday, AdamReisinger.com looks back on May 17th each year since 1980.
Because of the leap year, May 17, 2000 was on a Wednesday. The day prior to my 20th birthday, Britney Spears released her second album, "Oops!... I Did It Again". By the time I turned 20, I was a full-fledged Britney-holic, so everyone knew I wanted this album for my birthday. When the release date was originally announced, I made a proclamation that I expected to not have to purchase the album. My friends and family did their jobs, and I received four copies of it on May 17th (I did exchange three of them for other things -- I'm not THAT Britney crazy).
10 years later, I'm still a Britney-holic, as evidenced by my own personal "Circus" Tour last summer. I'm also still a Mets fan, which I was back in 2000. On May 17, 2000, the Mets beat the Rockies behind the strong pitching of Al Leiter, who improved to 5-0 on the season. This was the season that the Mets would eventually reach the World Series, for just the second time in my lifetime.
The less said about the NBA Playoffs on May 17, 2000 -- when the Knicks and Heat were busy sending basketball back into the dark ages -- the better. Those Heat-Knicks games in the late '90s and early '00s were completely unwatchable.
