College Football Top 10

It’s that time of the season again, where upsets usually happen. Only, they didn’t at all this week, so there’s very little movement from the fictional Top 10 that I forget to post last week.

At this point of the year, I’m tired of comparing relative strengths of wins from 2 months ago, so let’s instead look ahead and try to project, based on what’s left for these teams.

10. Ohio State
I despise ranking this team this highly, but they haven’t been bad the past couple weeks. Terrelle Pryor is going to be a great quarterback. OSU’s only remaining regular season game is an easy win against Michigan, then they wait for their bowl bid.
Projected W-L: 10-2
Projected Bowl: Capital One Bowl

9. Boise State
2 games stand in the way between Boise State and another unbeaten regular season. Neither of them is a huge challenge -- 6-4 Nevada and 6-4 Fresno State. The Broncos should be BCS bowling again.
Projected W-L: 12-0
Projected Bowl: Fiesta Bowl

8. USC
At this point, the only thing standing between USC and the Rose Bowl is... Oregon State? That’s right, if both teams win out, the Beavers get the automatic BCS bid. I don’t see that happening, though. USC should beat Notre Dame and UCLA, while Oregon State loses to Oregon in the season finale.
Projected W-L: 11-1
Projected Bowl: Rose Bowl

7. Penn State
Thanks to the win over Ohio State, all the Nittany Lions have to do to go to Pasadena is win next week against Michigan State. While no pushover, the Spartans shouldn’t block this run for the roses.
Projected W-L: 11-1
Projected Bowl: Rose Bowl

6. Utah
1 game left... the rivalry game with BYU. This game would have been even bigger if BYU was still undefeated, but it’s a pretty big deal for Utah. Big enough that the Utes won’t blow it.
Projected W-L: 12-0
Projected Bowl: Orange Bowl

5. Oklahoma
This is a HUGE game this week against No. 1 Texas Tech. For the Sooners, it means either having a shot at at BCS game or settling for the Cotton or Sun Bowls. Even if the Sooners do get past Texas Tech, they’ve still got OK State looming.
Projected W-L: 11-1
Projected Bowl: Fiesta Bowl

4. Texas
1 regular season game left, against a crappy Texas A&M team. But check this out -- if Oklahoma beats Texas Tech and there’s a 3-way tie in the South, the tiebreaker is the highest BCS ranking, which would probably, in that scenario, be Texas. So then it’d be Big 12 Title Game, then likely BCS title game for the Longhorns.
Projected W-L: 12-1
Projected Bowl: BCS National Championship Game

3. Florida
The Gators are already locked into the SEC Championship Game, and have regular season games left against The Citadel and Florida State. 2 easy wins before the showdown with Alabama, which I see the Gators winning.
Projected W-L: 12-1
Projected Bowl: BCS National Championship Game

2. Alabama
So if I’ve got Alabama losing to Florida, the only two questions left for the Tide are if they’ll lose before then and where they end up.
Projected W-L: 12-1
Projected Bowl: Sugar Bowl

1. Texas Tech
Wow, so how much does this suck for Texas Tech. In my projected scenario, they finish 11-1, with the 1 loss coming to another 1-loss team, and probably finish no worse than 5th in the BCS Standings. But because only 2 Big 12 teams can get BCS bids, they end up in the Cotton Bowl. It’d be the first time since the 30s that the Red Raiders played in back-to-back January bowls, but that would be of little consolation to their fans.
Projected W-L: 11-1
Projected Bowl: Cotton Bowl
