A look ahead at the three sporting events I’ll be watching this weekend (and yes, because of the NFL season, Monday counts as part of the weekend).
1 LSU at 17 Kentucky, 3:30 ET on CBS
The Tigers survived a scare last week against Florida, with what one ESPN anchor predicted would be a “man’s drive.” He said that drive would be the one we looked back on when LSU wins the national championship. Of course, for that to be the case, LSU needs to take care of business this weekend against Kentucky. You might remember the last time these two teams played in Lexington, which didn’t go so well for the Wildcats.
Redskins at Packers, 1 ET on FOX
I know everyone’s all up on the jock of the Patriots and Cowboys (who came so close to pulling my desired choke job on Monday). But for me, this is the game to watch. If the Redskins can beat the Packers, it legitimizes them as an NFC contender, plus I get to tell Todd Johnson that the Packers suck. Plus, if the ‘Skins can pick off Brett Favre once, he’ll break the interception record.
Red Sox at Indians, 7 ET on FOX
Game 3 of the ALCS, the first home game in the series for the Indians. Cleveland is sending the inconsistent Jake Westbrook to the mound against the enigmatic Daisuke Matsuzaka. I’m really hoping the Indians win the series, and getting a win in a game that Sabathia or Carmona doesn’t start would be a huge help.
